Coolio, the ’90s rapper who had hits like “Gangsta’s Paradise” and “Fantastic Voyage,” has died at 59, his manager has confirmed.
Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, passed away on Wednesday afternoon at a friend’s house in Los Angeles.
His longtime manager, Jarez Posey, admits Coolio went to the bathroom at a friend’s house, but when he didn’t return after a while, the friend kept calling for him, and later went in and discovered Coolio laying on the ground.
Coolio’s Cause of Death
According to law enforcement sources, Paramedics were called to a house around 4 p.m. in Los Angeles for a medical emergency, and when they arrived, Coolio had died.
As reported by Jarez, the friend called EMTs, who showed up and pronounced him dead on the scene, the paramedics believe he suffered a cardiac arrest. There is no official cause of death for now.
Well, according to the police, a death investigation has been launched, but there are no indications of foul play at this time. However, as per the sources, the coroner will make a final determination after an autopsy.

Gangsta’s Paradise
He is especially known for his 1995 single Gangsta’s Paradise, which earned him a Grammy nomination for best solo rap performance. The blockbuster hit was taken from the soundtrack of Michelle Pfeiffer’s film Dangerous Minds, and it sampled Stevie Wonder’s 1976 song Pastime Paradise.
Throughout his career, which began in the late 1980s, Coolio was nominated for five other Grammys.
His career took off after Tommy Boy Records released his debut album, It Takes a Thief, in 1994. Fantastic Voyage, the album’s opening track, would reach No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.
A year later, Gangsta’s Paradise would become a #1 single.
